The Green Turtle is named after the greenish color of its fat. Green Turtles generally grow to be about 300 pounds and are renowned for their excellent navigational abilities – better than GPS! They love to eat seagrass and algae. Using their “GPS” skills, Green Turtles somehow manage to return to nest on the same beach where they hatched. In the summer of 2016, an injured juvenile Green Turtle was rescued not far from Turtle Key and was rushed to the Turtle Hospital in the Middle Keys. The turtle, now known as Jesse Ryan, has enjoyed a full recovery and is a welcome guest at Turtle Key!
